Career
Fanny Valeyre is agrégée and doctor of philosophy. In her doctoral thesis, she studied the Greek concept of phúsis (‘nature’) on the basis of its contemporary interpretations, in particular by Heidegger and in the philological sciences. Her main research interests are the philosophy of nature and the philosophy of technology, at the intersection of ancient and contemporary thought.
As part of the Space Chair, her work focuses on the relationships between nature, technology and pollution. She considers technologies from the perspective of their modes of existence in the long term, and in particular when they are ceasing or have ceased to function. She investigates the ontological diversity of the remains of space technologies and infrastructures, as well as the manifold timescales involved by such remains and the social and environmental questions they raise. By drawing on the concept of pollution, she examines the relationships between outer space and ‘nature’ to highlight the various meanings that can be given to nature and ecology.
