Workshop on Space Debris – Sept 2025
Fanny Valeyre, a postdoctoral researcher in philosophy, participated in a workshop on space debris. Organized by CRESE (Center for Research on Economic Strategies, University of Franche-Comté) with the support of CNES, it was held on September 8 and 9, 2025, in Besançon. Fanny Valeyre presented her ongoing research on space debris: she examined the concepts involved when discussing debris, in particular the notions of “space object” and “pollution,” as well as how the problem of debris is posed and constructed. She also questioned the spatial and terrestrial dimensions of debris, taking into account the diversity of the environments it traverses and the multiplicity of relationships it involves, according to different time scales.
CNFRAA Scientific Days – May 2025
Susie Pottier, our post-doctoral anthropology student, took part in the Journées Scientifiques of the Comité National Français des Recherches Arctiques et Antarctiques (CNFRAA), a meeting place for polar research, in Grenoble from May 11 to 14. These multidisciplinary days encouraged exchanges between young doctoral students and experienced researchers. Susie Pottier presented the results of her thesis on the social relations that develop in an Antarctic station isolated from the rest of the world, and in particular how mutual aid, a phenomenon that seems to go without saying, helps to unfold a wider social landscape, where issues of work, hierarchies, reciprocity, etc. are at stake.
