Workshop with the scientific steering committee (Session 2)

On the 19th of May, 2025, the four post-doctoral students in the Space Chair discussed the progress of their research with several members of the Chair’s scientific steering committee:

Susie Pottier: ‘Humans, technologies and nature: an anthropology of space and its analogues’.

Timothée Cabos: ‘Satellite data and climate representations: how the use of satellites influences our understanding of climate issues’.

Camille Ternier: ‘Des plans sur la comète. The in situ exploitation of space resources, an issue of social justice’.

Fanny Valeyre: ‘A philosophical approach to space debris: thinking about interactions with the space and terrestrial environments’.

The discussions showed the extent to which this research is relevant today: how are narratives woven about the privatisation or otherwise of orbital and mining space resources, what are the political implications of determining climatic variables (questioning unconscious biases), how can we observe, through space analogues such as Antarctica, the interactions between humans and non-humans (animal, plant, machine, technology, landscape, etc.)? ), but also what is the future of space debris (space pollution, orbital congestion, durability) and how is the comparison with the seabed useful?
